As a photographer, I’ve always dreamed of capturing the image of people caught under the ephemeral and transitory haze of a sunbeam. During my recent visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, I came across the moment I have been eager to shoot. I had been to Jakarta for a mission trip with my church. We were supposed to do a city tour on the last day but I decided to shoot something in Jakarta instead of sightseeing. I didn't know what I wanted to shoot and There was no information. I just knew I wanted to go to the fish market. It may have been just my instinct but when I arrive at the Pasar Ikan (fish market) area, I hung around the street. I expected to be able to shoot just street market images. However, when I entered inside the market, I started pressing down on the shutter unconsciously. What a great scene. I saw that fantastic sunbeam I’ve been dreaming of. That’s not all. The workers who were dressing the fish and smoking were the other gifts for creating the perfect image. It felt like I was shooting a film. I was highly satisfied at being able to capture this gorgeous moment unfolding like it would in a movie.
